Advertising that turns on with the weather

Most local advertising runs at a constant rate whether or not anyone needs what you sell. Here you can buy the conditions instead of the calendar: your campaign serves when live National Weather Service data says your phone is about to ring, and stays quiet otherwise.

• Tree services and generator dealers

  Wind advisories, ice accretion and winter storms. The calls come during the event, not after it.

  Serves when a wind advisory, high wind, winter storm or ice storm is active or when gusts exceed 40 mph or when more than 0.1" of ice accretion is forecast.

• Roofing and exterior repair

  Severe thunderstorm and hail-bearing storms, while people are watching the radar.

  Serves when a severe thunderstorm or tornado watch is active or when a hail is active.

• HVAC

  Heat advisories and hard freezes — the two days a year a failing system becomes urgent.

  Serves when a heat advisory or excessive heat is active or when the high is above 88°F or when a hard freeze or extreme cold is active or when tonight's low is below 20°F.

• Plumbing

  Keyed to the forecast overnight low rather than the current temperature, because that is when pipes actually burst.

  Serves when tonight's low is below 22°F or when a hard freeze or freeze warning is active.

• Grading, excavation and site work

  Heavy rain and flood periods, when driveways wash out and banks slip.

  Serves when more than 1.5" of rain is forecast in 24 hours or when any river reaches minor flood stage or when a flood watch or flood warning is active.

• Propane and firewood

  The first sustained cold of the autumn, gated to the months when it actually drives a purchase.

  Serves during September, October, November and December and when tonight's low is below 32°F.

• Winter recreation and lodging

  Snow in the forecast or cold enough to make it, in season.

  Serves during January, February, March, November and December and when more than 1" of snow is forecast in 24 hours or when it is below 28°F.

These are examples, not a fixed menu. The targeting engine takes arbitrary conditions — temperature, forecast overnight low, wind gusts, rainfall and snowfall totals, ice accretion, river flood stage, active alert type, month — combined with and/or/not. If you can describe when you want to be seen, it can almost certainly be built.

Audience

Readers across 20 counties — Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Madison and the rest of the western tier. Traffic is weather-driven and spikes hard: a winter storm or a flood watch moves it by an order of magnitude, and those are the hours your campaign is designed to run in.

Inventory

Every slot reserves its space before anything loads, so ads never shift the page under someone reading a warning. Creative is lazy-loaded and never on the critical path. We accept standard display creative, or we will build a native unit that matches the site.

You supply the copy and we build the unit — the photography comes from our library, so there is nothing to commission and no artwork to approve before your first flight runs. Every unit below is rendered by the same code that serves a live ad, at its real dimensions, so this is the ad rather than a picture of one.
