How to read these numbers
Stage is the height of the water surface at the gauge, not the depth of the river and not a height above any particular street. Flood categories are set per gauge by the National Weather Service and mean different things at different locations — nine feet is routine on one river and serious on another.
A gauge showing “no flood thresholds published” is reporting a real water level, but no official category has been assigned to it, so we will not guess whether it is high.
This page is not an evacuation tool. If water is rising where you are, act on what you can see and on instructions from local emergency management, not on a number from a website.
