Terms of use

WNCWeather.com reformats public data from the National Weather Service, the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Water Prediction Service, and adds interpretation on top of it. We are not a government agency and we do not issue warnings.

Do not rely on this site alone in a dangerous situation. Official warnings are at weather.gov. Follow instructions from local emergency management, and act on what you can see rather than on a number from a website.

Weather and river data are provided as-is. Upstream sources fail, particularly during the severe events when they matter most, and sensors report bad values. Where we are showing data that is not current, we label it with its age — but we cannot guarantee that any figure here is correct or available at any given moment.

Modeled values — including conditions shown for summits with no weather station, and any temperature estimated for an elevation — are estimates derived from forecast data, and are labelled as modeled wherever they appear. They are not measurements.

National Weather Service and U.S. Geological Survey data are in the public domain. Radar imagery is provided by RainViewer and basemap tiles by CARTO and OpenStreetMap contributors, each under their own terms. Our own text, design and code are ours; the software is released under the MIT license.

You are welcome to link to any page here. Please do not scrape the site in bulk — the underlying sources are free public APIs with courtesy limits, and heavy scraping puts that access at risk for everyone.

Advertising is labelled and separated from forecast content. We suppress all advertising during Tornado Warnings, Flash Flood Emergencies and Extreme-severity alerts. Advertisers have no influence over forecast content, alert presentation, or river data.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, WNCWeather is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here. Use it as one input among several.
